The locomotive public artwork planned for the Greenway Bridge over New England Road is intended to be lit from below by slowly changing LED lighting so that sometimes it appears to passers-by below and sometimes it doesn't, thus enhancing its ghostly nature. As originally planned the lighting was intended to be embedded in the structure of the Grade II listed bridge which, I imagine, caused the planning department some reservations. Revised drawings have now been submitted showing the lighting attached to the locomotive structure itself, see BH2011/01227.Original planning application: BH2008/03424.
