At the north-east corner of the site at the junction of Mighell Street & Carlton Hill the building will have its lowest elevation above street level. Elsewhere it rises to 8 storeys above John Street and has two basement levels below. As far as this corner is concerned I think I am going to like the set-back upper floors and the stepped curves at the far end.
Is Brighton now a fiefdom of American Express?
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteThis is the ugliest building I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI live in the area and it is already an eyesore.
We have completely sold Brighton out not just to the banks - but to the financiers.
It is quite significant that it is now a taller building - than the police station in front..
DEMOLISH IT!
There is no way Amex were not going to build on this site and I think it could have been worse. The original plans were modified as a result of comments from the public and amenity societies.
ReplyDeletecant wait until this is finished, finally Brightons starting to look like a proper city!
ReplyDeleteThink this is a major building? Just wait until the next phase of the new Amex mega complex is released for public consultation.

Firstly, PIPE DOWN...
It's an eyesore because it's a building site! How can you have an opinion on what an unfinished building is 'going to' look like? be grateful, it will probably do nothing but good for the value of your home!
